What Is an As-Built Document?
An as-built is a detailed record of what was actually installed — as opposed to what was planned. It's the final deliverable that tells the client: here's exactly what we put in the ground, where it goes, and how it connects.
What Goes Into an As-Built
- GPS coordinates — exact locations of handholes, splice points, and termination points
- Cable type — manufacturer, fiber count, cable specification
- Strand count — which strands are used, which are spare
- Splice records — which fibers were spliced where, with loss measurements
- OTDR test results — optical time domain reflectometer readings
- Photos — before, during, and after
- Route description — the physical path of the cable run
